Paulie's Pizzeria - New York Style Pizza in Columbia, SC
Just tried out Paulie's for lunch and it is genuine New York Style Pizza, right here in Columbia, SC. Paulie's is located at 4517 Forest Drive, between Beltline and Fort Jackson. I ordered to big cheese slices. The crust is particularly thin and kind of crispy-- very tasty. They put corn meal on the underside of the crust which is not my favorite thing, but it is very tasty and nice for a change.
For atmosphere, I like Paulie's. Very New York, very New Jersey, very Pittsburgh.
They don't serve Sicilian pies. One of my buddies tried a Stromboli and it was yummy, too.

Paulie's in Bluffton, SC
Paulie's in Bluffton, SC (outside of Hilton Head) is the real deal. We ate there in 8/2007 while on vacation. I was very impressed -- it equaled the best pizzas I have had in the US and Italy, and yes it is NYC style. Crust is excellent and is the real star of the show: thin but not cracker thin, good size to the outer rim, crunchy, chewy, a complex taste, crusty surface, truly great. Sauce is what it should be -- tastes of sweet imported tomatoes, does not scream out I AM A GOOPY SAUCE. Mozzarella is sliced and not grated. I did not taste the corn meal or semolina under the crust, but I did notice that it had just enough of the burnt taste from the coal oven that compliments the top of the pizza so well. If you are a pizza fan in the area you owe it yourself to visit Paulie's in Bluffton. The shopping center is quite beautiful by normal standards, it's new, and there is a great cinema there.
