New York Pizza in Atlanta

The mention on Slice was based on a conversation with a New Yorker who found himself in Atlanta and couldn't find a good slice of pie.  I can definitely relate to this situation.  However, I've gotten pretty good at seeking out and finding a good slice if it exists in a particular city.

I can't give good advice on Atlanta because honestly, I lived there for three years, and was just happy to have a Domino's nearby.  Nuff said about that.  Anyway, If you're looking for good New York Style Pizza in Atlanta, I'd try the following places to get started:

These places ought to get us started.  I'll be giving them a taste on my next trip to Atlanta, for sure.

The closest to ny style pizza

The closest to ny style pizza is a place located in midtown called vespuccis my only beef is that they close too early about 5pm weekdays the get the mad lunch rush during the week. enjoy!

The last two on your list are

The last two on your list are in the right in smack of downtown, mainly catering to Georgia State college students (or so I think). Rosa's Pizza is very good, nice and thin, with a good ratio of cheese and sauce. Crust is nice and crispy, but chewy on the inside. As for Little Italy, the store changed hands a few times during the last few years; while it was pretty good a few years back, it's just about average now, and even when they were good, they aren't as good as Rosa's.

The best pizza I have had in

The best pizza I have had in Atlanta, and the closest to NY style, is Giorgio's on Collier Road. Baraonda is good Italian/Neapolitan; Fellini's will sustain life but could only be called quality by people who grew up on chain pizza. Giorgio's is real NY style, thin, chewy, the right proportion of cheese to sauce, and not piled down with toppings like you get too many Atlanta pizzerias. A stripmall hole-in-the-wall rather than a dining experience, but the pizza is unrivalled in Atlanta. (There may be some places around the Perimeter that match it but I don't get out there much.) If you're from up North you'll feel like you're home again.

The only NY style pizza we

The only NY style pizza we have found in Atlanta is at the Midtown WholeFoods. They have a brick oven right in the store. It is nearly authentic, except that sometimes you can find a bit of cheddar on it. You can definitely fold it, it's good, you order it by the slice. But of course it is inside a grocery store, so not the atmosphere one would hope for.

Fellini's is in my

Fellini's is in my neighborhood, so it's my choice, although it's not perfect. The last couple of pizzas were not cooked hot enough, long enough. They were kind of soggy. Ideally, the cheese
needs to bubble and some of the oil extracted should start to fry the crust.

Hello, i love

Hello, i love pizza.wordpress.com! Let me in, please :)

[...] In a prior post about

[...] In a prior post about New York Style Pizza in Atlanta, we had a list of several places that needed checking out.  On Wednesday night, Garry & I went by SLICE down on Peter’s St.  We took the MARTA train to Garnett stop, one south of Five Points, and walked about 3 blocks to the place.  (Note:  this is not the best neighborhood to be strolling around at night.) It’s got a very modern, kind of art deco look to it, definitely not Grandpa’s pizza place.  They use traditional pizza ovens which gave me hope.  The pizza was underwhelming, a little on the bland side.  I had to add hot pepper seeds to spice it up a bit.  Last time I had to do that was when eating a Little Caesar’s pizza.  Nonetheless, it was definitely New York Syle pizza and I would return. I've been on a quest to find

I've been on a quest to find a good slice in Atlanta for a few years, and so far a winner has not emerged. Slice is probably the closest to the real thing - thin and big with a weak sauce that lets the nearly perfect cheese blend take the limelight. But the crust, though soft and chewy, is nearly tasteless. I like a bit more of a reward at the end of a slice, not what tastes like a blob of solidified air. I hit up Ray's in my search and instantly regretted it. Their pies are thick and saucy and nowhere near New York Style. The cheese is gloppy and bland. There was a distinct cheapness to the taste, with an unwelcome vibe of School Cafeteria Pizza. It was actually a burden to finish it. I haven't visited all the joints on this list, so the search continues! Meawhile, my favorite pie remains Athens Pizza in Decatur. Not New York Style - more Greek - but every component is well crafted and glorious to behold. Nice quality for a staple delivery pie.

I was just writing an entry

I was just writing an entry in my blog about pizza in Atlanta. Ray's New York Pizza will probably have the best regular slice you can find. I usually just go by that standard. If their regular slice is good, then I'm cool. I hated Slice even though I didn't try their pizza. Fellini's is Fellini's. I have no clue why they call it New York Style. Also, you should try out a place called Niki's on Howell Mill. Their regular slice is pretty good. And over in Cabbagetown, there's a relatively new place called Village Pizza. I haven't tried their regular slice, but their Greek Pizza is to die for. Don't eat their eggplant parm. It's shitty.

It has been a few years since

It has been a few years since I was back in Atlanta and tried it, but isn't Fellini's pretty good?

Keep up the good work.
